HANNAH CONNOLLY STEPHENS
Paths through Trees Tarot

These paintings, which are a series based on the 22 characters featured in the Major Arcana of the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot, explore archetype through a playful combination of symbolism from my distant Catholic heritage and the influence of my husband's practice as a Hindu Tantrika. Swami Vivekananda, the first Hindu monk to speak in the West, said that the crown jewel of India's spirituality is its unparalleled religious tolerance and ability to find Truth in all traditions. His lectures and writings have been a guiding light in my life and practice. These paintings are a celebration of the friends, tricksters, seekers, and teachers we encounter while looking for Truth
